Resolved: before this summer's over, I will have a beautiful, glowing tan.
...I think I hear laughter echoing from all my tanless relatives. How odd.
Of course, I don't make this resolution lightly--I fully expect to be mocked and ridiculed. After all, my skin's never tanned before, so why should it decide to now? However, something happened recently to give me hope. Just when I had resigned myself to being a poor white creature all year round, my sister Chelsie came bounding into the room to show me the impossible--she had a tan. Not a burn, or just a multitude of freckles, but an actual tan. Then it occurred to me, if she can do it, why not me? We have the same parents, right? So, it was with grim determination that I headed to the pool today.
And got no results.
Disheartening as this may seem, I have not given up. There are still over 2 months left of summer, and plenty of pool opportunities. Mockers beware, because I'm out to prove that a member of this family can tan, and not just burn.
The pool was a blast, by the way :)

Good luck Steph! It is possible - just really difficult... You know there are some good sunless tanners:)
This is less riducule but words of wisdom from a ten years older version of yourself...
In college, I discovered a picture of me where I was about 8 years-old, and I was really tan. I used that as proof that tanning was possible for me. After sporadic efforts to tan, I've decided it was a fluke or rather that I was a kid and spent all day running around outside and don't quite have the time or stamina as an adult. My point is that it's not worth trying--it's time consuming and could give you skin cancer. As to Suzanne's recommended sunless tanners, they are also time consuming and smelly.
I say, love your pasty, white skin and wear it proudly!
No, I get it--love the skin you're in. I do draw the line at tanning beds, though. No way I'm getting inside one of those carcinogenic sweat factories. Still, if I happen to spend a lot of time outside this summer and happen to get some sun and maybe look a little tan... well, I won't complain :)
It is possible, but it takes time and consistency. With our skin I find that if I am not outside almost every day, what color I have fades quickly. Always use sunscreen. My face and chest burn faster that other areas. I put 30 spf there but my legs are extremely color resistant so I use a lower spf. I also use some sunless tanners on my legs. (There are some that don't stink). The whole point is to have fun in the sun. I'm headed this week to go camping with the boys and plan to spend extended time by the river:-)
